GYDE worked collaboratively with the owners of Persephone Bakery to design their flagship location in downtown Jackson, transforming a historic log cabin. The owners have a strong design background and brand story and wanted this location to define that brand. The flagship cafe earned several accolades including Architectural Digest’s most beautiful coffee shops in America (Wyoming). Following that success, Persephone’s owners teamed up with GYDE Architects for the remodel design of additional locations, Picnic and Persephone Westbank, as well. The result is three distinct yet complementary spaces that evoke the brand and enhance the customer experience.
Our Persephone Westbank project is a great example of the power of design to reimagine a space while adding value. This project was a remodel of an office space and existing cafe. The owners wanted a storefront that reflected the natural beauty around the property and a design that made economic sense.
The existing space was dark, claustrophobic, and in need of finish updates. Our challenge was to transform the 2,075 sq ft space into a modern cafe that transports diners from the Rocky Mountains to the streets of Paris. At Persephone Westbank, we created a warm, inviting setting evoking French cafes while rooting the space in Wyoming. The open floor plan invites customers in, while the white accents and exposed ceiling make the space feel larger than it is. We used design elements like black and white patterned hexagonal floor tiles and a soft marble central coffee stand to welcome patrons and create an intentional juxtaposition between decorative French charm and contemporary restraint.
