W House

A groundbreaking, innovative, and completely holistic approach to outdoor-indoor seamlessness and topographical integrating, this home’s interior and exterior design speaks in true dialogue with its natural landscape. The roof allows the sun to be performative, lifting up during the day allowing the sun to heat the concrete floor, which then releases heat during the night. A curved northern exposure takes full advantage of afternoon sunlight, creating its own microclimate and a dynamic movement of light throughout the house.

The organic form resulting from the path of the sun can also be felt in the interior. As one moves through the house, there is a natural flow that “eddies out” in spaces, similar to a river. Subtle level changes add to the experience of movement and flow through the space. Eased edged and curved walls soften and enhance this concept even further.
