Elk Refuge Residence
Original 1950s house
New addition and remodel
This timeless Moose Street home bordering the National Elk Refuge sits on an oversized .33-acre parcel. Every detail was considered during the remodel and addition to maximize views of the Elk Refuge as well as the original footprint of the home. Bringing light into the home was a focus of both the owner and the design team. All four bedrooms were opened up by the addition of expansive windows and a purposeful lighting design that takes advantage of the unparalleled nature, seclusion and green space in the heart of Jackson.
Modernizing both the interiors and exterior with contemporary materials lightened the space in both form and function. Additionally, a separate 280 square foot artist’s studio as well as a lock-off ARU above the garage provide plenty of overflow space for the owner to expand and find solitude. Emphasis was placed on the integration and utilization of the outside spaces – where the architecture and landscape teams came together to design small moments to take in the grandeur of the surrounding views. A gas fire pit sitting area to watch the sun rise over the protected 25,000-acre Elk Refuge with a cup of coffee.
